Transit Stations

Transit station is a fancy term for bus stop, writ large. It can be a simple pole in the ground, a massive train station, bike share station, place where you wait for your ride, or car share point. All have design and mobility components related to the interaction of people and vehicles.

We proposed rebuilding the station directly over the mouth of the Lincoln Tunnel so that buses would not ply city streets. Our proposal tied for 1st place, but then the competition was cancelled.

Morogoro Road BRT, Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania)

Video of our raised crosswalk at a BRT station along Morogoro Road in Dar es Salaam. These were chosen over traffic signals because they work 24/7, the power never goes out, they reduce vehicle speed, and there is a level crossing for people with disabilities.

Jakarta (Indonesia) BRT

The original design for the Line 1 BRT included a pedestrian bridge at the Kota Station, which would have worsened the urban situation. We proposed an at-grade crossing, which was ultimately built.

We designed the station access and intersections along the Insurgentes corridor.

This example from the Al Ain Central District Plan (UAE) captures all the movements (BRT/LRT, pedestrians, drivers) to, from and within the central bus station. The idea is to realistically show how the various modes use the space.
